Next 2nd Saturday is January, 10th
2nd Saturday is an art focused program where youth work together in exploring ways to use art to elevate youth voices, while at the same time building relationships with each other and the community. Youth collaborate directly with local artists, delving into styles and techniques to self-express and experiment with multiple medians of art. The latest collaborations included two murals; one with a local Ferguson artist and the other as part of Project Mural STL. This program is funded partially through a grant from the Regional Arts Commission.
2nd Saturday encompasses a loose network of youth and artists discovering opportunities to re-purpose a former firehouse into an open youth led collaborative space incorporating the arts. The hope is for the former firehouse space to become a place for reflection, for gathering and contributing ideas for a youth community.
2nd Saturdays is held in the FYI Backbay & Youth Lounge. It is located in the back of Ferguson City Hall at 110 Church Street off of Florissant Road.
Youth have recycled old wax into Remnant Candles, old glass jars into Ferrariums, recycled old pews into movable seating, and learned about Aquoponics. In addition, the youth worked on an art mural that now hangs in the backbay.
