FYI would like to thank the volunteers at St. Louis Bicycle Works for bringing their Earn a Bike program to Ferguson.  We also would like thank Ferguson Bicycle Shop for supporting young people by sponsoring this program.  The students met every Monday at the old Ferguson Fire House for five weeks learning bicycle safety and maintenance.  In addition, each student earned a free bike.

The Earn a Bike program is for children between 8 and 18 who can commit to attending class for six consecutive Mondays …

This St. Louis BICYCLE WORKS program gives youth the opportunity to earn a free bike while they learn about bicycle safety and maintenance from volunteers. The St. Louis Bicycle Works Earn-a-Bike program aims to teach kids that they can set goals — and reach them. Everyone deserves the chance to dream, and to follow those dreams, by challenging themselves, testing their abilities and reaching for more. The youth work independently and in groups to solve problems. They must attend every session to graduate.

During this free Earn a Bike program, kids attend a series of hands-on courses held one day a week for six weeks. They learn about bikes, including maintenance and safety, but the other lessons they learn are even more valuable. They learn to solve problems individually and as a group. They also learn a sense of responsibility — as students must attend every session to graduate. Upon graduation, kids receive their own bike, helmet, light and lock and participate in a group safety ride with adults and peers. Per Information provided on St. Louis BWorks’ website

  1. Hi, guys! I have a neighbor who’d like to apply for the Earn A Bike program through FYI. Is it still possible to get into the next class?
    Thanks so much,
    Angela Ressner

  2. Angela – Please have your neighbor complete an application. The next earn-a-bike class is starting soon.

    Thanks

  3. I am very interested in having my two grandchildren participate in this learning/safety program on bikes. Paishons and Kyrell Chanley would benefit greatly from this program . This is a once in a life time opportunity for them to learn, achieve and receive!

  4. Hello,

When does the next earn a bike session begin. I have two boys that are interested.

    Thanks

  5. Hello, Ollie!

Thank you for inquiring about the Earn-a-Bike program! Could you send an e-mail address, or phone number so that we can contact you with the information for the upcoming session? This message will also be forwarded to our program manager to give you details about the program.
